Phu Quoc is home to VinWonders, the largest theme park in Vietnam. It boasts everything you can think of for entertainment, from amusement parks to ferris wheels, aquariums, and water parks.
This visit was with my one and two-year-olds, and I discovered some tips to make it easier for families, which I hope will be helpful to those planning a visit.
Please check out this vlog for a more visual information.
In addition to VinWonders, there is also VinSafari, a safari zoo located in a different area. While the aquarium is part of VinWonders, the zoo requires a separate entrance fee. Both are operated by the VinGroup, and they offer a value ticket that covers both. If you're interested in visiting the zoo too, I recommend buying the combo ticket.
Price
Pricing was 950,000 vnd for VinWonders only, including 250,000 worth voucher for food and drinks
Time line
A major tip for VinWonders: Vietnam is extremely hot during the day, far more so than Japan. From 11 AM to 3 PM, brace yourself for the intense heat. The park opens at 9 AM, so it's best to visit your must-see attractions early and move to cooler places like the ferris wheel or aquarium as it gets hotter. The water park is also a great spot during the peak heat, as it's naturally cooler.
Food
A 250,000 vnd voucher for food and drinks is included in the ticket, however, there are certain places you cannot use this voucher. You cannot use this voucher in the aquarium, so keep that in mind.
Attraction with toddlers
For families with small children like ours, our options were somewhat limited. Specifically, we enjoyed the ferris wheel, aquarium, and shows.
Though we say "limited," the aquarium is the largest in Vietnam and the ferris wheel ride lasts a solid 20 minutes, taking up considerable time.
We missed the show, which takes place in the cooler evening (as our kids go to bed early), but a friend who attended said it was fantastic.
Tips for Navigating VinWonders with Toddlers:
The key tip for families is to pay for the tram service. It circles around the park and costs 100,000 VND (about $4) per adult, with children under 100 cm tall riding for free. Whether this seems expensive or not varies, but I found it immensely beneficial:
No need to walk in the scorching sun with kids.
The trams are roofed, providing shade.
The open sides mean you get a refreshing breeze while moving.
Kids love the tram rides, which are simple fun.
You get to your destination quickly.
Unlimited rides, so you can hop on and off as needed.
Family-Friendly Spot 1 - Aquarium:
The turtle-themed aquarium at VinWonders is a hit with toddlers! The entire building is shaped like a giant turtle, with the entrance designed as the turtle's head. There's even a waterfall simulating the turtle's drool, which delighted my daughter.
Once inside, the first thing everyone notices is the cool air—a welcome relief from the heat. The large tanks, dimly lit with blue lighting, are home to sharks and other large fish, providing a mesmerizing view.
We visited early in the morning and practically had the place to ourselves.
Another highlight is the long shark tunnel. With the popularity of the song "Baby Shark," my daughter was thrilled to fulfill her wish to see sharks up close.
The restaurant inside the aquarium is nice and spacious, with a wonderful view right next to the shark tank!
Family-Friendly Spot 2 - Ferris Wheel:
The ferris wheel offers beautiful views and air-conditioned comfort. Note that children under 80 cm tall are technically not allowed to ride, but we managed to get on with a bit of charm the first time. The second ride required some negotiation due to a stricter check.
From the ferris wheel, you can see the beautiful ocean, lush untouched land, and even the turtle aquarium next door. My daughter was excited again, shouting "turtle drool!"
Diaper changing places
There were restrooms with diaper changing facilities, but not every restroom has it.
Mainly, the restrooms close to the entrance has it, so please check the map for reference.
Height and weight restrictions
There are rides with height and weight restrictions. You can see in the map, so please check it upon arrival. We didn't realize this until after coming back to the hotel.
Strollers and wheelchairs
They had a storller and wheelchair rental service close to the entrance.
Entire map as of May, 2024
I hope these tips help other families planning a visit to VinWonders Phu Quoc.
